Museum of the Moon at Tewkesbury Abbey

16 October to 4 November

Oct 16th

Tewkesbury Abbey

This autumn, step into the serene glow of the Museum of the Moon at Tewkesbury Abbey, where this awe-inspiring artwork by Luke Jerram will transform the Abbey into a space of wonder, reflection, and imagination. Measuring seven metres in diameter and featuring detailed NASA imagery, the internally lit Moon sculpture floats amidst the gothic arches, accompanied by a tranquil soundscape composed by Dan Jones.

Throughout its residency at Tewkesbury Abbey, we invite you to Illuminated Viewing Evenings—a chance to witness Luke Jerram’s Museum of the Moon in its most atmospheric light. As daylight fades, the Abbey’s vast interior becomes a contemplative space bathed in soft lunar glow and ambient music.

To accompany these we’ve curated a vibrant and varied programme of moon-inspired events for all ages. Whether you’re seeking stillness, creativity, or connection, this is your invitation to experience the Abbey like never before.

Programme Highlights

  • VIP Preview Evening (16 Oct) – An exclusive launch with drinks and canapés beneath the Moon.
  • Illuminated Evenings (Selected evenings, 20 Oct–4 Nov) – Extended opening hours to enjoy the Moon by night, including sensory-friendly sessions.
  • Live Concerts Beneath the Moon:
    • A Tribute to Pink Floyd with Wish you were here and Dark Side of the Moon, by Everything Under the Sun (18 Oct)
    • Hans Zimmer & Film Favourites, by The Illuminated Orchestra (21 Oct)
    • The Planets by Holst, performed by The Fulltone Orchestra (1 Nov)
  • Shakespeare by Moonlight (30–31 Oct) – Magical theatrical performances by Wise & Wayward Theatre.
  • Half-Term Children’s Programme (27–31 Oct) – Including a moon trail, storytime, bouncy castle, yoga and science workshops.
  • Yoga Under the Moon (various dates) – Morning sessions blending wellness and wonder.
  • Tea Dance Under the Moon (25 Oct) – A joyful afternoon of live music, dancing, and community spirit.

Worship will remain at the heart of the Abbey’s life throughout the installation, with specially themed services inviting prayer and reflection under the Moon.

The Museum of the Moon programme is proudly sponsored by Cotteswold Dairy, one of the UK’s largest independent family dairies, based in Tewkesbury. With a long-standing commitment to quality, sustainability and community engagement, their support helps ensure this remarkable event is accessible, inclusive, and rooted in the local area.
